Ethics at work

CIO has an article on ethics;

"...the moral center of every company lies within its leaders. Those leaders are and should be held to higher standards of ethics and morality—because they are leaders."

Please take a moment to read the article. I am not advocatng their opinion, but do want you to be thinking about ethics and the way you work.

Ethics are critically imporant to your career. They are also critically important to you personaly, as the decisions that you project workers make have major impacts on other peoples' lives.

  1. I don't think the claim is inaccurate, but when the leaders of companies feel beholden to stock holders who want nothing more than profits, it's awfully hard for any CEO to mind his moral compass.

    Thanks for the comment David. CEOs of public companies are definitely driven towards some tough decisions. Another reason its good to have strong ethical people in charge.

    As you point out though, its hard for many to resist the external forces.

    Henry Mintzberg writes about thisw topic. I've been spending time reading his work recently. If you are interested you can access some of his writings here
