BABOK 2 now available

The International Institute of Business Analysts has published version 2.0 of their Business Analyst Body of Knowledge (BABOK.) The IIBA has a similar momentum to the PMI a decade back and so the BABOK is likely to become a BA equivalent of the PMBOK.

It is full of information about the requirements management process, from identifying organsiational situations that give cause to a project, through to starting the requirements gathering process, to delivering a solution to your business or client. Processes and techniques are both coverred.

Experienced practitions will probably recognise many things, but will probably discover a few new tips. Novice analysts would benefit from a thorough read (followed up with a discussion with your peers.)

And project managers would also benefit. In two ways.

1. You are often called upon to do the requirements management work at one level or another in your projects and you can pick up some of the techniques and employ them, and

2. You'll have better insight into the processes and practices of your BA team, and be better able to work with them in the future. Probably as a more understanding consumer of their work, and as a coach.

So, if you are a member of the IIBA - it's free, and if you are not, then it's only US$29.95 (or about that.)
