Six Sigma is a packaged set of proces improvement tools, and integrated into a fact based decision making model. Software and business process improvement projects could easily be bracketed by the define, measure, analyse and control processes that Six Sigma advocates.
Six Sigma may be on the back of the hype curve by now, but there is still plenty of value to be found in the model. If you don't know much about it, and are curious - here is a slide presentation that gives a good quick oveview of the key concepts.
