Best Practice and ITIL

Now that I have discoverred the IT Sceptic I am enjoying it quite a bit. For example, he challenges the concept of 'Best Practice' in a dynamic and diverse industry like IT. It is asking for trouble.

"Once again, it is not ITIL itself that I (or the author) am taking a tilt at. This time it is that concept of Best Practice. I much prefer the term Generally Accepted Practice... You just inflate expectations and attach a note to your backside saying 'kick me'."

We all get sceptical of things that are said and done around the corporate office. Often it is rooted in people's practice of jumping onto the next big idea without taking the time to undertand it properly.

When adopting new ideas, take the time to understand them first, and then adopt them to your context second.
